Dana vs Team Pet: where each free plan stops

Both apps put one routine in front of everyone who cares for the animal. What separates them is what the free plan lets a household do before it asks for money.

Team Pet describes itself as a shared pet-care app for organising tasks, reminders and health and activity history with the people who care for your pets. That is a fair description of Dana too, and there is no point dressing up the overlap.

The difference is where each one draws its free line. Team Pet is free to download with in-app purchases, and its own FAQ tells you to check the current plans for the pet and team limits that apply to your household. Dana puts unlimited pets and unlimited caregivers on the free plan and charges for depth elsewhere.

That single choice decides most of what follows, because a limit on how many people can join is a limit on the thing a shared-care app exists to do.

The limit that matters is the people limit

Team Pet’s own FAQ answers the pet question by pointing at the plans: check the current plan details for limits that apply to your household. It answers the free question the same way, and it lists team chat as a Gold-plan feature on Apple. None of that is hidden, and none of it is unusual.

It is still the limit worth reading first. An app that caps how many people can join is capping the coordination itself, and the household that needs it most is the one with a partner, a teenager and a dog walker in it. Dana does not put a number there. Unlimited pets and unlimited caregivers with attribution are on the free plan, and Pro changes what you get rather than what your household is allowed to do.

A shared history is not the same as a reminder that knows

Both apps keep a record of completed care, and both show it against a name. Team Pet puts it well on its own site: record completed care so the next person knows what still needs doing.

The gap opens at the reminder. If you and your partner both get the evening medication alert, the record being accurate afterwards does not stop one of you acting on an alert the other has already handled. It is the second of the four questions worth asking any free reminder app. In Dana the reminder itself stands down for the whole household the moment one person logs the dose. That behaviour is not visible in a feature list, and in daily use it is most of the difference.

What Team Pet has that Dana does not

Chat, on its Gold plan. Dana has no in-app messaging. The house view is that a household already has a group chat, and that the app’s job is to remove the reason to use it for this rather than to become another one.

Team Pet also advertises listings on both the App Store and Google Play. If everyone in your household is not on the same kind of phone, check where each app is currently listed before you choose, because that decides the question before any feature does.

Questions about this, answered

Is Dana free, or free to download?
Free, and the distinction is the point. Unlimited pets, unlimited caregivers, quick logs, tasks, reminders, health tracking and the Care Streak are the free plan rather than a trial window. Pro adds depth: a daily Dana AI allowance instead of the free plan’s one-time set of checks, the Records Vault, and more streak protection.
Can a helper see less than the owner?
In Team Pet’s own App Store screenshots the household shows two labels, Owner and Member, and its materials describe no view-only or limited level. Dana has a limited role for sitters and walkers that sees only the tasks meant for them, with an end date if you want one.
Does Team Pet give veterinary advice?
Its own FAQ says no, and tells you to follow your veterinarian’s instructions. Dana takes the same line. Dana AI sorts a worry into emergency now, call the vet today, or monitor at home, and it never diagnoses or prescribes.
Which is better for a sitter covering a week away?
Dana, on what each publishes. Team Pet advertises a sitter handoff built around leaving the routine in familiar hands. Dana gives the sitter a role that limits what they can see and an access window that closes on a date you set, so you do not have to remember to remove them afterwards.
