Dana AI: a pet health assistant for dogs and cats
Dana AI is the assistant inside Dana, the shared pet care app for iPhone and Android. Tell it what's worrying you and it suggests a next step: emergency now, call the vet today, or monitor at home. Photograph food or its label to check it for each of your pets, or ask other care questions and get answers based on your pet's record. It never diagnoses.
Three ways to ask
Dana AI opens with three choices. "I'm worried" starts a symptom check. Tap a common worry, such as vomiting, limping or eating something bad, and add what you noticed. Or describe it in your own words. "Can they eat this?" opens the Food Scanner: photograph the food or its label, pick the pets you're asking about, and each one gets its own verdict. "Just ask" covers other care questions: portions, daily routines, vaccines, travel and a healthy weight.
What a symptom check tells you
The result is Emergency now, Call vet today or Monitor at home, with a short summary of why. It never gives a diagnosis or a medication dose; those need a vet who has examined your pet. Answers that start from your pet's record
When you ask a question, Dana sends your pet's record with it: age, sex, size, coat, latest weight, current medications with dose and schedule, vaccines with their next due date, and up to a week of care logs. So when you ask about portions, your dog's age and weight go with the question. Earlier questions stay listed under "Just ask", so you can pick a conversation back up. Where the emergency details come from
When a result includes a poison-control number or emergency contacts, Dana adds them from its own records for your region; the AI never writes them. If your question describes a symptom, you get a short answer and a button to run the full check. The same warning appears under every conversation: not a substitute for emergency vet care.
Saved where the household can see it
Each symptom check and food scan is saved to your pet's timeline, showing who ran it and when. The rest of the household can see it, and you can show it to your vet. Your questions stay in your own history.

- Is Dana AI a replacement for my vet?
- No. It helps you decide how soon to act, and it never diagnoses or gives a medication dose. Your veterinarian handles diagnosis and treatment. If your pet might be in danger, call your vet or an emergency clinic first.
- Does it work for cats as well as dogs?
- Yes. Dana AI works for dogs and cats, and only those two. Your pet's species goes with every check and question.
- What does Dana send to the AI?
- Your text, any photo you add, and the pet details the answer needs: species and age for symptom checks; questions also include sex, size, coat, latest weight, current medications, vaccines and the last week of logs. Dana doesn't attach your name, your email or your pet's name, but anything you type is sent as you wrote it. The privacy policy names the AI provider and lists what is shared.
