Walks that record themselves
Start the walk and put the phone away. Dana draws the route on a real map, holds the time across a pause, and saves one walk that covers every dog who came along.
Pause is a real pause
Stop for a chat or a bag, tap pause, and the clock and the route both stop. Nothing keeps counting while you stand still, so the distance is the distance you walked.
One walk, every dog
Pick the dogs coming with you at the start and the walk saves once. Each of them gets the entry on their own timeline, sharing one route and one time rather than three near-identical logs.
It survives the phone
Close the app, take a call, let the screen die. The time comes from the server rather than a timer in the app, so reopening picks the walk back up instead of losing it.
Your own numbers stay yours
The summary estimates how far you moved too. That estimate is worked out on your phone and stays there: never uploaded to Dana, never sent to analytics.
The walk closes the task
If today had a walk on the care plan, saving the walk ticks it off. Nobody logs the same walk twice, and the household reminder stands down.
Questions about this, answered
- Does Dana track my location in the background?
- Only during a walk you started, and only if you allow it. Grant location while the app is open and the route records while it is open; without background permission the walk still runs, and the screen says so rather than quietly recording a partial route.
- What happens if the app closes mid-walk?
- Reopening offers to continue or end the walk, and a walk you paused comes back paused. The timing lives on the server rather than in the app, so a killed app costs you the part of the route the phone could not record, not the walk.
- Can I walk two dogs at once?
- Yes. Choose them at the start and one saved walk lands on each of their timelines with the same route and time. The set is fixed once the walk starts, so nothing is attributed to a dog who was not there.
- Can I throw away a walk that went wrong?
- Yes. The summary asks you to save or discard, so a walk that recorded badly, or that you started by accident, never has to reach the timeline.
- Is walk tracking available for cats?
- No. Walks are a dog feature in Dana today, so a cat profile is never offered one. Every other kind of care log works the same for both.
